Gifts From The Future

As we embrace the holiday season, we begin thinking about gifts to give family, friends, and other loved ones in our lives. This article highlights several technological advancements of 2012 that may be deemed the perfect gift for another, or maybe even yourself. Although new to the market and quite expensive, the question is whether these inventive product offerings will take to the market and become commonplace in the household or merely become lost in the multitude of product offerings, some of which are much cheaper to purchase?

This article was interesting to read and showcases the current values of our society: environmentalism, speed, convenience, and narcism. While it was fun to browse through the items, I am doubtful that any of them will be a huge hit this Christmas. They tend to be niche products, only desirable to a small group of consumers. High prices will likely deter many people from purchasing these products, but the technologies could definitely be useful in the future. I could see the projection system taking off once it is tailored especially for home use, and the speaker system could potentially revolutionize its respective market. While they make not take off now, it will be interesting to see how sales behave as the products more out of the introduction stage.
