Microsoft has finally come to accept tinkering with the Xbox Kinect technology. Microsoft's customers have been doing for awhile and it is now embracing it with a new research project KinectFusion. Hackers and Hobbyists have been tinkering with the Kinect since it came out. Microsoft is now realizing that it can gain from its customers contributions and it can revolutionize the way we produce 3-D images.

Girl Talk, a "musician" discussed during our talk on tinkering, has just released yet another studio album entitled "All Day" that is available as a free download via his record label, Illegal Art. A large tour to back the album includes a stop in Madison on Monday, March 7. If you haven't seen Gregg Gillis live, definitely check it out (and grab your ticket SOON). Dance party!

After today's discussion regarding tinkering, I couldn't help but post this video. The Avalanches are an Australian DJ collective; in order to produce their most popular and critically-acclaimed album "Since I Left You" (completed way back in 2000 and released in 2001), the musicians compiled 3,500 obscure vinyl samples for just 18 tracks. Impressed by Girl Talk? Just give this a whirl. Make sure you stick it out long enough to hear the mixing of the bird noise...you'll understand.
For a (slightly) less-bizarre and uber-funky cut, check out the album's title track. Happy tinkering!
