Although this is the first story I have read about the IPhone acting as a safety device, apparently it is becoming a common thing. The article points out how it taught a basketball coach along with a Haitian earthquake survivor how to save a life in a pressure packed situation. This could lead to a lot more individuals learning activities such as CPR due to the accessibility and not needing to take a class. This will hopefully lead to even better apps and hopefully make the world a safer place.

This is really cool. I just downloaded a similar version to my ipod. The app that I got says that it automatically updates with changes in cpr techniques. Hopefully I'll never have to use this app.

A neat idea. Speaking of apps, has anyone downloaded UW's new iPhone app? If so, what do you think?

I think this idea is very interesting. I really hope Apple can continue making Apps like this that will make a positive impact on the lives of people. I am a bit sic of all these general game apps that serve no purpose except for entertainment for college students during class and profit. My question is if apps like this continue to develop teaching anything, could these apps eventually replace workplace training? It may be a dumb question but ten twenty years from now when we have video phones and video apps, it could happen.

I am pretty impressed with the UW App. I thought it was going to be incredibly basic, but they have everything from news, bus schedules, uw directory and sports. I can definitely see myself reading more about what's going on around campus since it's so accessible.

I agree that the UW iPhone app is more complex than I would have guessed. It will be great to see the app come out for Android phones as well. Do a lot of other schools have an app like this?

I think it is really a great idea and I should also download this app in my iphone. It would be nice to have it when people are on their vacation to sea.

I think this is really cool because it shows how the apps are really progressing from being mostly just games to apps that are really useful and can potentially save a life. Another similiar app is called 'The Safety Button'. All you have to do for this App is to press a big red button on the screen, and it automatically sends out a text and email of your location, makes a distress call and sounds an alarm. These kind of Apps will likely (and probably already have) saved lives

Wow I had no idea of the safety button app...maybe I will have to get my grandma an Iphone so she feels safe walking around the house ha. But seriously there are a lot of companies making a lot of money off those so called alert necklaces doing the same idea, which this app could really hurt their business
