Square Coke Bottles

I know this is a few days behind, but last week we talked about tinkering and changing attributes of the Coca-Cola cans. This is a design by a student who came up with a more environmentally-friendly square Coke bottle. Here's what it looks like. I wonder if they'll use it?

Unfortunately this new design may face the same demise that the loud sun chips bag met. Although the effort is an environmentally friendly one, obviously soda bottles are rounded for a reason: consumer ergonomics and convenience. Square bottle, round cupholder? Probably won't work very well. Although it might not sell, it still looks cool!

I agree with Dave. These bottles look great but don't seem very functional in our round bottle paradigm world.

How about the opposite? What if we tried to make rectangular things round? How about a round cereal box or a round or a round television?

good point about the cupholders- didn't even think of that!

I like the design as well - very sleek! I also like the technical drawings and explanations on the article page. It's really creative how the cap of one bottle fits into the bottom of another. But I imagine it would be uncomfortable to hold on to, as the squared edges would press into your skin.

Though transitioning to square bottles would be a monstrous task such as America switching to the metric system, I think if any company had a chance at swaying people's beliefs and attitudes, it would be a corporate giant like Coke.

There is an upside and a downside of this concept.
Obviously, it would be harder for us to grip it and not that functional.
But when it comes to the storage, it would be a great idea. This square shape would be great in terms of storing in the fridge, it will save space!!
Similar to this, Japanese farmers are making "square watermelons" for an easier storage purpose.
